As I was painting this I couldn't get the darn Cheesecake Shop jingle out of my head. If you're Aussie, you'll probably know the one I mean...

So yeah, Elanor from Dreamless in the style of 1940s pinup artist Gil Elvgren. Just for fun, cause I'd never do a pinup of my own characters :p

Old pinup art is really interesting. The girls are always beaming, going about their business (in less clothes than normal) or looking completely surprised to have been caught with their legs bare. They also have great shoes.
Very classy as far as modern male titillation goes!

Well to be honest I used a photo reference for the pose this time around. And the woman in the photo looked just as awkward :p

To get the watercolour effect of the background, basically I just looked at watercolour paint and tried to emulate it - which is mostly just a matter of making the edges of brushstrokes a little darker.

Ooh, very cute.

One of the reasons I love old pinup art is that the girls look so happy! No terror, or pain, just smiles. It seems rather wholesome, in a way. ^_^
