Artist's Comments

Medium: Photoshop CS3
Time: ~10 hours

As the body count rises, and defeat seems inevitable... it gets harder to find reasons to keep fighting.

This is Robyn's "Past" painting, part of a series that will show past and present (and maybe an idealised future) of each of Phoenix Requiem's four main characters.

Gorgeous!! I've been a silent fan of yours since allll the way back to the beginning of Inverloch...and i have to say, this is an absolute masterpiece. Makes me feel bad for poor Robyn

I greatly admire your skills. That you can create a webcomic as beautifully done as these paintings, it's truly something to aspire to.

On the piece itself, I find it rather bittersweet. Robyn's expression seems melancholic and at the same time almost like he's smiling through the end he must so dearly see. Though he's off-center, he's definitely the focus of the piece. You can simply see the hope dripping off his face to be replaced by the bitter reality of his surroundings.

Truly a great piece, Sarah.

An Artist is not paid for his labor, but for his vision

All painting should be poetry. Nothing else. No ugliness, no vulgarity, no sordid dirt or chaos or commonness.

Make all your words sweet. You might have to eat them later.

Beautiful and haunting. I can't wait for the calendar, I'm so buying it!
