This is how I paint things at the present time. This is not how I painted things a month ago I keep changing my techniques, but I do like this method so I thought I would share.
Something too lengthy to mention in the pic: The reason I do the first half of the painting on a small canvas is for two reasons. Firstly, for speed - trying to lay down large textured brushstrokes on a huge canvas causes painful lag. Secondly, when I upscale, I discovered the rough texture turns into an interesting mottled look due to the resize artifacts. This actually looks really nice for skin variation!
