Hey guys! I will be at the Keenspot Booth #1229 in the Webcomics Pavillion if you want to stop by, say hello, and pick up a copy of Dreamless! I'll also be at the Keenspot Panel in Room 4 on Sunday 2pm - 3pm. Not entirely sure what's involved in that but I'm sure it'll be interesting :)

I hope to see some of you there!

Please support my ambitions to become a full time professional comic artist! Preorder the Dreamless graphic novel now, and get a look at the ending before the web readers do! :D

The limited hardcover edition even comes signed and has pretty foil printing on the cover, if you like that sort of thing :)

Wow... as of today, I have been a member of deviantArt for 7 years.

Mind you, about 5 of them don't count. I created my username a long time ago after somebody did pencil sketch copies of my art without crediting me, and I wanted to chastise them.

Then I largely forgot about the site. I had my own art site, and that's where I put my pictures. Then I stopped painting altogether for three or four years and did nothing but comics.

Then a couple of years ago I decided what the heck... maybe I'll start painting again, and put my art up here. It might gain a few new readers for my comic.

Two years and 400,000 (!) pageviews later, and my old art site has gone and this is the only place I put my pictures!

I would like to redo my art site though. Have a nice little portfolio going, feature my best works, link to all my graphic novels.

We'll see ;)

Can someone explain this Kiriban thing to me? I think I have a rough idea, but I figure at least one of you out there would know exactly what it's all about :)

I've been doing a handful of commissions lately, and as a result have been getting a few questions from people asking if I'm openly doing them, what my rates are, etc.

I'm not openly doing commissions at the moment. I have 'accidentally' taken some on (either because I was persuaded to, or because I gave the wrong impression about my commission status and felt it would be mean to turn people away after they tried to hire me :XD: ) but for the time being, commissions are closed.

Come back in three months when I'm unemployed ^^;

They changed the header bar! And other things! Arg! Don't do that, I get confused! D:

It doesn't actually feel like it fits with the rest of the site, TBH :/

Edit: I don't hate the changes, I think there are some good additions. However I don't think the 'new bits' match the 'old bits'. There's now three kinds of navigation (drop down boxes, tabs, and side scrollings) and that's my main concern.

Ah well, not like any of the dA designers are reading my blog (or the millions of other outcries XD)

I'm starting to think that the llamas are a bad thing. It's enough that people obsess over their page views and watchers, now it seems they are going to obsess over how many llamas they can collect.
Really, it just makes things competitive. Why do things need to be competitive? The only person an artist should compete with is themselves. One should never actually strive to become better than somebody else.

Eh, it's new. Maybe the novelty will die down :)

I must say, I do rather like my little super albino llama though.

So, I'm pretty sure (like, 95%) that I'll be at Comicon this year. I was hoping to have Phoenix Requiem Vol 1 printed, but that might not happen. I will however be in the Keenspot / Blatant Comics booth promoting Dreamless which will be completely finished. At least, that's the plan :p

So, since I can't sell copies of the book, I could sell some art or posters. Any images in the gallery you'd be interested in buying as a big signed print?

Spammerrrrrrr

LOL. I was going through all my +watch messages in my account, looking at galleries and posting "Thanks for watching" messages.

But I posted so many in a row, now deviantArt thinks I'm a spammer :(

Fanarts... continued!

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 2, 2009, 4:58 PM
I'm now getting quite a collection of Inverloch & Phoenix Requiem fanarts in my favourites folder here! I invite you all to have a look, and of course if you come across a fanart that isn't in the collection (or if you created one yourself!) please let me know about it!

Note: I CAN'T favourite or add your image if it's not on deviantArt! So, as much as I like seeing the images on Photobucket or wherever, I can't add them here.

--

Sorry for the lack of new artworks lately, I'm working hard on the Volume 1 cover painting, which I'm spending far more time than I usually would on a single image. Hopefully in another week it'll be complete and I can post it here!

Fanarts

If any of my watchers have done fanarts for Inverloch or Phoenix Requiem, could you please link them in the comments? I've figured out the Collections thing for favourites and I'd like to add them all :D

Prints

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 4, 2009, 6:57 AM
Frog Princess now available as a print by request :)

I may consider making the Phoenix Requiem character paintings I'm working on (which includes the recent Robyn and Petria pieces) available as individual prints although the intention is to make a 2010 calendar.

If somebody has submitted a print request on an image, do they get notified when it becomes available?

Status Report

All my free time is taken up doing degree/program related commissions for the local University. 'Cause my Mum works in the marketing department and they found out I can draw :/

I'll probably be able to post them all here when I'm done, and -then- I'll be able to get back to doing some painting ^_^; of some TPR characters since that's what's winning the poll!

I would like to be able to complete 12 paintings for a Calendar next year. Here's hoping :)

So... there is a possibility I might be working for myself in the second half of this year, which means my comic & other artistic exploits would have to support me to some larger degree.

Obviously, freelance work/commissions would be a big part of this. Does anyone have any good guidelines on the price to charge for various commissions (sketches, lineart, simple coloured paintings, full paintings with backgrounds, etc) - perhaps pricelists put out by other artists of similar skill - and would that many people out there seriously actually want to commission me?

Stop forwarding the Alfred Hundana / DragonHeart620 warning message. It is a HOAX.

DragonHeart620 started it, presumably for giggles. He's been banned from dA. You can't get a virus from a friend message.

I remember hearing once a long time ago that when artists draw people... those people always tend to have a resemblance to the artist. Maybe it's because the artist's face is the one they are most familiar with, the one they know best. It could also be complete bollocks, of course.

I definitely think that when I paint someone, they sorta look a bit like me. I've certainly seen the same thing in at least one other artist. I'm not sure if people who draw in typical anime or cartoony style would get this, I'm thinking more realistic styles.

What do you think? Do the people you paint always look a bit like you?

If you see a comment on your Deviant Page telling you to CLICK HERE to find your secret Valentine / or because a blog wrote something about you...

Don't CLICK THERE.

It's a bot stealing passwords to DeviantArt Accounts. So far it seems that all the bot is doing is posting the same spam to other dA pages, but that's not to say it won't change to be something more malicious.

Please just mark these comments as spam so nobody is tempted to click them!

Ack! It's Valentine's day real soon. Sooner than I realised o.O

I am NOT going to paint Jonas and Anya, simply because I've painted them in a lovey-dovey romantic painting already.

I'm thinking of doing Jonas and Ksendra, simply because their relationship & marriage is still a bit of a mystery... and I'd like to do something the illustrates how dangerously obsessed Jonas was with his wife. But in a humorous sweet way. Somehow :)

So much feedback from the dynamic-pose page experiment that I couldn't respond to them all personally! A lot of conflicting opinions there, some people thought it was perfect, others thought it didn't work at all. There were a few things that were constantly repeated though, and that's what I'll be taking into account.

Of course there is a lot of (unknown, for you guys) context surrounding this page. Not knowing it has made things seem out of character for Anya, but let's just say... she's pretty stressed and pissed off ;)

Thanks to everyone who gave their input. Much love to you all <3

Onto the next page!
